Founded in 1908, the University of Alberta is considered one of the top Universities in Canada with an enrollment of more than 37,000 students. Major new construction and an increasingly dense campus required action to improve the use of the site by a very diverse population. Cygnus was selected to develop an interior wayfinding program for four capital projects that could be carried forward to new and existing buildings on campus. At the outset, our team conducted a thorough assessment of all existing signage on campus. The findings along with our understanding of the University’s needs played a key role in informing the design of the new program. Key requirements were the integration of the University brand, the adaptability of the signage to accommodate changing information and durability to withstand the rigours of a university environment. The program has been a great success.
