Following its centennial anniversary, the University of Saskatchewan began the process of revitalizing the look and feel of its campus. Cygnus was engaged to conduct a campus-wide wayfinding study and to develop a master plan and design strategy for new campus wayfinding.  Cygnus undertook a systematic review of all elements that relate to the wayfinding experience including the website; major thoroughfares and pathways; landmarks; maps; and signs. Interviews were held with key stakeholders, staff and students as well as individuals from the City and adjacent community groups.  Our process also included workshops to understand the public’s mental image of the campus. The findings of our research helped to identify deficiencies and provide guiding principles to inform the design process moving forward. This led to recommendations for design options including elements that promote awareness of the university, not only as a physical environment, but as a living entity with history, values and vibrancy.

In 1996, TELUS launched its new brand, which initiated a signage project to change existing [signage and wayfinding] throughout all applicable TELUS facilities. The Cygnus team was congratulated as they met the challenges ‘head-on’ and helped to make this a very successful project.
